Musically Speaking...

Every day for the last few days, Ethan has asked, "Momma, can we listen to that song by the three sisters about the army trumpet player?" Yes, he's been asking to listen to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" by the Andrews Sisters, circa the Big Band Era.

When I put it on, he starts dancing around and loves it. I don't know if it's the song itself that he likes (it's pretty catchy and I've always liked it, which is why I downloaded it on iTunes), or if it's the fact that it's about a trumpet player (he's really into learning about instruments right now), or if it's because it's about World War II (he really likes hearing about war stuff). Regardless, he really, REALLY likes this song.

Last month, I realized that there was a lot of music in my head that I love (like "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller and this song by the Andrews Sisters) that would never get passed on to my kids unless I intentionally introduced it to them. So, I went onto iTunes, and bada-bing-bada-boom, next thing ya know, we were bopping around to "It Don't Mean a Thing (if it Ain't Got That Swing)" and other classic Big Band-era tunes.

I LOVE exposing the kids to different forms of music. Last month, it was a variety of Christmas songs that iTunes offered for free download, and Ethan loved "Ding Dong Merrily on High" and went around the apartment singing lines from that song for weeks. We all (Baxter and Maranatha included) love dancing to LeCrae, our favorite Christian rapper (this guy is theologically, lyrically, and musically right-on)... you should see Maranatha bouncing up and down to the beat-- talk about precious! The kids love to listen to such a wide variety of music, and I'm so thankful for iTunes that lets us get all kinds of music, new and old, even though we're a world away from any Best Buy stores. :)

Papa and I can just see everyone dancing around. How precious!! Those songs are very "catchy", and I remember my parents (your grandparents) loving those songs! They are the type that are very hard NOT to sing along with or dance along with and always fun to listen to. Ethan, Baxter and Maranatha have always loved music so much! That runs deep in our family, doesn't it?! Love you, Mom and Dad
