"The Lone Stranger " and Black & White TV

As we were out for our anniversary dinner at Rosario's (the best steak this side of Texas), the kids stayed with a couple of young ladies we know. Apparently, they watched one of the newer Veggie Tales that we had not seen yet. In "Mo and the Big Exit" there is a character named "The Lone Stranger".

A few days later, Ethan was talking about "The Lone Stranger", so I (Doug) started telling Ethan all about "The Lone Ranger" on our taxi ride to the store; how, we was all alone except for his trusty companion, Tonto, and how it was in black and white. Here's the conversation that followed:

"What's black and white?!"

"Well, TV shows back then were in black and white, there was no color."

"Oh.."

"Well, not all shows were. Just certain ones...this one was from a long time ago."

"Dad?"

"Yes?"

"Did you live in the olden days?"

I'm only 28 years old, but I guess you are never too young to hear that line if you reminisce about black and white TV shows.

When you have a conversation with Ethan, there is never a dull moment! It's always fun and enjoyable! You never know what he is going to come up with! He really thinks things through and listens to you. We were at Mardel one day when I was watching him and Baxter and that Veggietales show was on, while they were playing with Thomas the Train, and they both really seemed to enjoy it!
I miss those fun conversations "off the cuff" with him! I'm thankful for skype!

I wonder why Nana didn't mention her early childhood days when all the TV programs were B&W.

I thought about an old song about your new town & wondered If you had heard it (sung to the tune "puttin' on the Ritz"...P.Gray

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul not Constantinople
Been a long time gone
Old Constantinople's still has Turkish delight
On a moonlight night

Evr'y gal in Constantinople
Is a Miss-stanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it, I can't say
(People just liked it better that way)

Take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks'

Well we haven't heard that version- the one we heard was an updated version by "They Might Be Giants"... and yes, I sing it to the boys fairly often... they think it's funny and it's taught Ethan a little bit at least about the historical names of this place we now live in! :)
