Bye Bye, "Backyard"!
A few weeks ago, I took a picture of the boys enjoying our "backyard" (alleyway just outside of our apartment where no cars could drive). [They're each wearing their blue jackets.]They had been able to go out and enjoy cumulative hours of playing soccer ("futbol" here), watching snails and slugs in neighbors' gardens, and playing like any little boys do when they're outside and virtual "kings" of their territory.
Well, that all changed three days ago, when we awoke to the sound of jackhammers and construction trucks. Apparently, though, we weren't the only ones surprised by the new road going through the one quiet spot in our neighborhood... our entire neighborhood began organizing and within a day, we had a protest letter in our mailbox ready to sign, and meetings were held. We didn't attend the meetings, but we did sign the protest letter.
Yes, the boys signed the letter registering their protests as well:But in the end, it didn't matter one lick. The road is now black-topped and (despite the fact that it's supposed to be a slow, one-way road) cars of all shapes and sizes drive any which way they please. Bye bye, backyard!

I got your comment over there too Stacy-- thank you guys for remembering us!
I'm so sorry about that. That was such a fun place for them to play, and it was a good cut-across to walk to different places that you go. It didn't seem that wide to me, from what I remember. Well, Ethan and Baxter got to learn about protest letters. They have had all kinds of new experiences, haven't they?
