A River Runs Through It

Doug took a trip up into the mountains with some guy friends this last weekend.

Some Kazakh children at play

No matter where you are in the world, elderly men can be found in early morning discussions

This picture proves that stick swords are universal

Mountain village

The guys stopped to watch this man carving a lamb, and Doug said half the town came out to watch them watching the lamb being carved! Because we're so close to Russia, people often assume that we are Russians. Some of the people they met this weekend didn't believe that they were Americans and were convinced that they were Russians, despite what Doug & the guys told them!

It's absolutely beautiful.

I agree with Kim. The beauty is awesome there. But are you sure that guy (Doug) isn't Russian? It's easier for them to think he just slipped down across the border
then to be an American, from Texas,
no less. Ha. Nyet! Dad/Papa

Yeah- this week is Fall Break so we're actually going as a family to a different place up in the mountains today and I hope to get to ride a horse! We'll post pictures within a day or two of that I'm sure. It's supposedly a salt lake... so we'll see- should be interesting. And beautiful, no doubt. About this place Doug was-- he said the river water was crystal blue- absolutely stunning. I'm so glad he got to go. It's always refreshing to be out in creation.
