"That's Quack-tastic"

We went to a Beijing Duck restaurant tonight and tried the famous dish... if you look in the picture, the duck meat is on the white dishes shaped like a duck, and there is a brown sauce that goes along with it- but actually, the best part was the little tortilla-like things that come with it, because we could fill them with sizzlin' beef, and it ALMOST tasted like fajitas. I think it's as close as we're going to get to fajitas for a long time.

Then the food arrived for the rowdy group 2 tables away from us:A waiter stood there the whole time at their table, carving piece after piece of lamb off of the platter until there wasn't much of anything left. They ate, and ate, and ate... and were still eating when we left! (Is that parsley in it's mouth???)

Then we went to an Uzbek ice cream parlor, a treat from this area, and it was scrum-diddly-umptious! It tasted as if we had gone to Marble Slab, gotten sweet cream ice cream, and had them mix in caramel. It was the best taste I could have imagined. We'll have to make this a more regular "treat" before it gets too cold here.
Kinda looks like cookie dough, doesn't it? And yes, those are wooden tongue depressers (like they use in doctor's offices in the US) that they gave us to eat the ice cream with.

We were happy to find in the local SuperWalmart type store here in England that they have a small Mexican section. I have been able to make chicken fajitas and burritos -- it is a bit of a treat though as a pack of 8 tortillas and a can of refried beans are each about 1.25 (~$2.50).
