"Take Me Home, Country Roads"

Yesterday, I went into a grocery store here that stocks some imported products (like baking soda, pasta, Skittles, and Nature Valley granola bars-yum!) and was trying to "stock up" for our move down to the border city where we will be living long-term (Praise the LORD- we're finally settling in somewhere!!!). What should I hear over the speakers but John Denver's song, "Take me home, country roads, to the place where I belong..." What irony that I was buying American products like granola bars and hearing John Denver in this place that's pretty much on the exact opposite side of the world from America! The wonderful thing about hearing that song in particular is that I do feel very at home here, especially wonderful when you consider that this country, culture, and language are all completely different from anything we've ever known before!

There's a new book Doug's been reading, called "The World is Flat" that talks about globalization and how easy it is now to find out about anything anywhere in the world, get products around the world, talk to anyone in the world, etc. Considering my shopping experience, the world indeed may be flat!
